Midnight feast

I couldn’t sleep

My heart was racing

back and forth my thoughts were pacing

I ate my heart to stop its beating

But it proved too tough for easy eating

Thumping against my tongue and cheeks

I spat it out and blooded the sheets

I stripped the bed and left it bare

I mopped the blood up in my hair

I stripped myself and washed my head

And lay back on the naked bed

Heartless now, I fell asleep

Shallow breaths becoming deep
