Luckdragon

Luck is a powerful thing. But it doesn’t exist unless you believe in it. Luck has more to do with attitude and confidence than it does probability; some scientists even believe that your approach to life is more important than your intelligence.

This year in the Chinese zodiac is the year of the dragon. The only mythical creature in the calendar, these years are often thought of in China as being particularly special or lucky. I am taking this as a good sign.

Unlike the evil dragon in Western mythology, the Chinese dragon is a symbol of heroes and a sign of good fortune. I was born in the year of the dragon which, obviously, makes me freer of spirit, self-assured and quick to inspire confidence in others.

I know that superstitions are irrational beliefs, but I like to acknowledge them. I know that horoscopes only seem personal because they vaguely voice what you want to believe about yourself, but I still enjoy reading them.

Luck is a wonderfully liberating thing: takes a situation out of your control. But don’t let fatefulness make you lazy. Make your own luck; don’t wait for luck to make you.
